My boyhood summers were spent at
Camp Hurontario on Georgian Bay. The camp was founded by my father so I
began painting at an early age under the guidance of the camp’s art
teachers. Here I watched and learned from some of Canada’s greatest
artists who visited the camp to paint the Bay. A.Y. Jackson, John
Rennie, Hilton Hassel, David Blackwood, John Hartman and Ted Bartram
are among those who have influenced my work.
Several local artists, Bill Franks, John Anderson and Chuck Whitter
have taught me valuable lessons in composition, tone and colour.
I enjoy being in the out of doors
and experiencing wild places where I can canoe, fly fish and paint.
Killarney, Algonquin Park, Georgian Bay, the Niagara Escarpment and Canada’s far
north feed these passions.
